Violinist Shawn Wang D.M.A 

Recently joining the violin faculty at the University of Maryland system, Dr. Shawn Wang is now teaching at Frostburg State University. He has also been on the faculty of the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and Elizabethtown College since 2022. Highlights of his 2025-2026 season include performances with the Baltimore Symphony, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and the Choral Arts Society of Washington at the Kennedy Center. Additionally, Dr. Wang will embark on an Asia-North America tour as the co-founder of the Atlas Duo, alongside his colleague Dr. Justin Badgerow.
Dr. Wang has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Baltimore Symphony, Boston Symphony, and New World Symphony. He enjoys summer travel and has performed at renowned festivals including the Tanglewood Music Festival, Pacific Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, and the Aurora Music Festival in Sweden.
As an active chamber musician, Dr. Wang has had the honor of sharing the stage with distinguished artists such as cellist Yo-Yo Ma, David Chan (concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera), Steve Rose (principal violin of the Cleveland Orchestra), and Jorja Fleezanis (former concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra). He has also collaborated with members of The Juilliard String Quartet, the Borromeo String Quartet, the Boston Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
A passionate educator, Dr. Wang has been on the faculty of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the New England Conservatory Prep School, the Winsor School, and the Chestnut Hill School. He has also served as a guest coach for the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2010, Dr. Wang founded and served as Artistic Director of The American New Music Festival in Chengdu, China, in collaboration with the Sichuan Conservatory of Music. The festival featured the Asian premiere of Dr. Samuel Adler’s All Natural Play, with Dr. Adler himself conducting and Dr. Emily Brown leading the Chengdu Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Wang’s piano trio also world-premiered Jeder Engel ist Schrecklich by Dr. James Kallembach of the University of Chicago.
Other career highlights include performing with Yo-Yo Ma at the Kennedy Center Honors in tribute to Maestro Seiji Ozawa. Dr. Wang's musical inspirations and mentors include Lynn Chang, Joseph Silverstein, James Buswell, Malcolm Lowe, and Lucia Lin.
